Author Commentary: My Nerve’s on Fire
Waking up in the middle of the night with a leg screaming in pain is enough to drive anyone mad. I know what it is like to dread the thought of going to bed knowing the pain would be ever present, gnawing on my sanity. The relentless burn, ache, cramp, and stab can drive anyone mad.
The nerves are very sensitive to pinching, pulling, crushing, and stretching. Just about anything can send nerve’s into a tail-spin of painful impulses. Just like a seizure, nerve pain can strike at anytime and be uncontrollable. That is why many medications used for nerve pain are also used for seizures.
Can the nerves calm down? Absolutely, making positive changes in health and body mechanics can turn the angry nerve into a calm nerve. Occasionally, surgery is required to decompress a nerve, but usually the nerve pain can be relieved without a scalpel.
Surgery or not, the option is yours. Just remember, you can always find a surgeon willing to operate. But, you cannot always find a doctor willing to educate and guide you through the burning ring of fire.
