I Am Not A Prescriber

April 23, 2009

I am not a prescriber, I am a doctor.

The distinction is as simple as…

A talker versus a lawyer

A blocker versus a running back

A swimmer versus a lifeguard

Prescribing is a task, not who I am.

I am a doctor. I am a healer.

I am a coach and a guide.

Drug companies want the spotlight;

But, drugs are not what healthcare is about.

Health and healing are the goals of medicine.

Profits and power are not my goals.

I am a doctor. I am a healer.

I am a coach and a guide.

Prescriber, I am not.

Don’t call me a prescriber;

I am worth more than that.

Thomas Edison once said (to paraphrase), “In the future doctors will not prescribe medications, but will promote health”.
